Tuesday Trips--Local Indulgence

Saturday we trekked to downtown Springfield to explore Askinosie chocolate. If you're looking for a traditional chocolaterie, you'll be disappointed, but if you want to learn a little more about how chocolate is constructed, you'll love it. Now, I'm warning you: this chocolate is not for the faint of heart. So, if you're not a fan of the darker variety, skip the sampling and go buy a bag of M&Ms. But if you love the pure soul of dark chocolate, you'll get swept away with the taste. This little gourmet bar was quite my favorite. It's not conched and has a delightful chopped vanilla texture--true to its name. Although they weren't in production over the weekend, on Tuesdays they do tours of the chocolate process, taking the raw bean all the way to the bar. In addition to crafting some deliciously pure chocolate, they also help contribute to their local community (Chocolate University for underprivileged kids) and the southern farmers they buy from.
